چکیده

Abstract Both non-rooted submerged vegetation dominated by coontail ( Ceratophyllum demersum) and floating duckweed Lemna gibba ) can maintain their stable dominance in small ponds channels. We examined the competitive interactions between them how sustain its state against plants a range of nutrient concentrations. Coontail were co-cultured static semi-static microcosm experiments, impact on nutrients (N, P, Fe, Mn) water column was analysed. strongly reduced growth under low nitrogen level (0.2–2 mg N L ?1 ). This reduction seems to be due availability as derived from lower concentrations tissue or high pH water. High levels media (5–10 resulted an increasingly higher chance overgrow C. demersum L. gibba. Field observations revealed that over bodies with total below 3 , while occurred above 5 N. occurrence correlated negatively water, showed positive correlation. Furthermore, frequency . All findings together support theory certain range, rootless macrophytes have strong potential inhibit ponds, ditches channels, thus, they stabilize state.

Floating plant dominance as a stable state.

Invasion by mats of free-floating plants is among the most important threats to the functioning and biodiversity of freshwater ecosystems ranging from temperate ponds and ditches to tropical lakes. Dark, anoxic conditions under thick floating-plant cover leave little opportunity for animal or plant life, and they can have large negative impacts on fisheries and navigation in tropical lakes. Her...

Aquatic arsenic: phytoremediation using floating macrophytes.

Phytoremediation, a plant based green technology, has received increasing attention after the discovery of hyperaccumulating plants which are able to accumulate, translocate, and concentrate high amount of certain toxic elements in their above-ground/harvestable parts. Phytoremediation includes several processes namely, phytoextraction, phytodegradation, rhizofiltration, phytostabilization and ...

Mowing Submerged Macrophytes in Shallow Lakes with Alternative Stable States: Battling the Good Guys?

Submerged macrophytes play an important role in maintaining good water quality in shallow lakes. Yet extensive stands easily interfere with various services provided by these lakes, and harvesting is increasingly applied as a management measure. Because shallow lakes may possess alternative stable states over a wide range of environmental conditions, designing a successful mowing strategy is ch...

Moving Load Analysis of Submerged Floating Tunnels

The concept of floating submerged tunnels becomes increasingly attractive idea to cross the straits. The structural solution in these bridges includes buoyancy force on tunnel body plus tension in mooring tethers. This paper investigates the effect of submergence on the dynamic response of submerged floating tunnels due to moving load. The inertial effect of the fluid on the submerged structure...

Pysiological effects of NaCl on Ceratophyllum demersum L., a submerged rootless aquatic macrophyte

In the present study, effects of NaCl concentrations (0, 20, 40 and 80 mM) were investigated in Ceratophyllum demersum. Macronutrients N, P and K and micronutrients Zn and Cu were significantly decreased by NaCl salinity. In general, however, Fe and Mn accumulation showed to increase. As a results, NaCl toxicity disturbed the uptake and translocation of macro and micronutrients in the macrophyt...
